Jetty Foreshores Precinct

Consultation outcomes

The GHD report summarises the outcomes of the 2018 consultation on potential precinct development options. The problem is that it does not represent the community’s views gathered at the time.

It is vital that any decisions on the future of the Coffs Harbour Jetty Foreshores Precinct accurately reflect feedback from local residents about the future of this valuable parkland and recreational area.

DO NOT let our community’s views be manipulated and misrepresented as part of the process. Stay informed and continue to speak up about what you want to see happen.

In the initial “pin-point” survey, Coffs Harbour residents put forward 1,600 ideas and comments and voted nearly 12,000 times.

There was only superficial analysis of this response to shape broad themes and no assessment of the support for or against proposals. The community engagement was mostly ignored.

In fact, there was high level of support for improved and new public facilities and spaces and cafes/restaurants. A significant majority did not support medium/high rise development. About 50% would support certain low-rise development.

GHD only identified the main subthemes of parking, accessibility, playgrounds, open space (no development), cafes/restaurants, the Coffs Harbour Yacht Club and the environment.

Initial face-to-face consultations and online feedback showed consistent support for enhanced parklands and improved public facilities but little appetite for commercial development or accommodation in the area.

GHD incorrectly claimed the results were inconsistent and began advertising an additional Facebook survey.

The Facebook online survey figures show 75-90% of Coffs Harbour residents do not support medium rise development in any area within the Jetty foreshores precinct.

GHD’s report claims: “almost 2/3 support for low to medium-rise development….”.
The consultation outcome shows Coffs Harbour residents are broadly in favour of well-planned low-rise community type development in parts of the precinct.

The report simplifies this to “The community was broadly in favour of well- planned development in parts of the precinct.”
